Winter might be getting closer, but things have started heating up for Upswitch!
We'll be appearing at several great design markets in the next month or so - in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Canberra! And with Mother's Day just around the corner, there's a few opportunities to find that perfect gift for Mum.
In other Upswitch news, congratulations to Natalia W. from Canberra who won our $150 voucher. We'll be doing another Upswitch voucher giveaway in June and all subscribers will be in the running, so stay tuned or subscribe to be in the running!
Soon we will be having our debut stall at the Finders Keepers market, held in The Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens. With over 250 independent art and design stall holders, it's set to be a huge one.
With dedicated food and beverage stalls, live music, two bars, three stations serving fresh coffee and Melbourne’s favourite Food Trucks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Finders Keepers launched in Melbourne in 2010 and have been steadily growing ever since, so come along and find out what the fuss is about...
Come say hello and see what new lamps we've got on offer!
We were very happy to have been asked to return for Melbourne Design Market's Winter offering this year, and it was another huge day for Upswitch! Featuring some of Melbourne's best designers and held inside the very funky underground carpark at Fed Square, the cold Melbourne weather didn't deter people from coming to parooz the great stalls on offer. With several new lamp designs and our new 'Wood Block Phone Dock' available, we met some lovely people who loved our upcycled products. Already looking forward to the next MDM on before Christmas!
Not long now til Christmas - so get on down to Northcote Town Hall for some last minute pressie shopping. There's almost 100 local designers, makers and artists selling a wide range of wares, come see for yourself. Everyone loves a handmade gift!
I hadn't even thought about doing a workshop in upcycling or teaching people how to make their own lamp, so when I was asked nicely by the folks at Work-shop to run a class I was stoked! Each participant will be building their own reclaimed timber wood cube lamp to take home and light up their life. It will be held on December 14th at Work-shop's awesome warehouse space in Fitzroy.
Work-shop have been running for a few years now, offering classes on all kinds of awesome stuff, from sign writing to taxidermy, crocheting to cartooning and anything in between.
Last weekend was a massive one for Upswitch, firstly with 'The Upmarket' on Saturday, held at Southbank's ACCA (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art). A lovely market jam packed with incredible food stalls and about 30-40 local and rural designers/makers. Looking forward to returning to The Upmarket next year.
Then Sunday was the big one, with 'Melbourne Design Market' held at Federation Square. Featuring 50 of Melbourne's best designers, I was honoured to be a part of it. I'd spent many sleepless nights preparing for the stall, producing enough stock and uprading the stall display (new 'Upswitch' sign and display boxes). It was an amazing day, with so many people stopping by my stall, taking photos and lots of great feedback on all of my lamps. It was so busy that I only spent about 10 minutes looking around at the other stalls right at the end of the day - some amazing makers and designers on offer, including Leanne Coates (Cavaletti Clothing), B.Dakin homewares, Urban Cartel, Hew a...
